River Cruises for the Next Generation

U by Uniworld is a new take on experiential travel, with cruises designed for those with a passion for exploring and a taste for authentic adventures.

U by Uniworld ships—the first of their kind—feature matte black exteriors, hammocks, DJ booths, a rooftop bar and communal dining tables, all designed to appeal to younger travelers.

Intended as floating boutique hotels and hip social hubs, beginning in April, U by Uniworld ships will sail nine itineraries along the Instagram-worthy rivers of Europe: the Seine, Rhine, Main and Danube. The cruises will take travelers through some of Europe’s hottest cities, giving them a chance to make the most of the culture and buzzing nightlife in Amsterdam, Budapest, Paris, Vienna and more.

Itineraries are planned around the schedules of travelers, with late-night and overnight stays in ports and later excursion start times that allow for sleeping in. The itineraries are also relatively short, keeping in mind working professionals’ limited time off.

The 120-passenger ships offer three categories of bedrooms—studio, balcony and triple-occupancy suites—all of which have waterfront views and come equipped with built-in Bluetooth speakers. Instead of afternoon tea, onboard activities include silent disco parties, yoga, wine and impressionist painting courses and mixology lessons.

Technology plays a key role in onboard communications. Instead of the traditional daily paper itineraries, WhatsApp and email are used for communications with guests and menus are displayed on screens in place of paper menus in the restaurant and bar.

On land, excursion options include an evening bike ride along the Danube, a canal cruise in Amsterdam, a “Midnight in Paris” evening stroll, vineyard hikes, castle visits and much more. The U by Uniworld ships often dock in the center of cities, putting you right in the middle of the action from the moment you step ashore. Less time getting to and from means you have more time for exploring.

In another first, U by Uniworld just made history by becoming the first cruise ever featured on ABC’s hit romance reality series The Bachelor.

You won’t know if you’re a cruise person until you take one, and a small, 120-person river cruise is a great way to get your feet wet.
