Colorful buildings line the shore of this Italian fishing village, making the aquamarine waters appear even more vibrant. Just two and a half hours by car from Florence, the Mediterranean beach town of Portofino is the perfect seaside spot for travelers who want to add some time on the Italian Riviera to their vacation. The calm waters, protected by the port’s horseshoe shape, are ideal for boating, swimming and kayaking. You can also take a hike in Portofino National Park, where you’ll find trails similar to the those connecting the Cinque Terre (Italy’s five historic fishing villages), but with much smaller crowds.
