There’s no more leisurely way to cross the blue Pacific than by cruise ship—most especially on a 15-night Princess® cruise to Hawaii, with your island time bookended by hassle-free days at sea.

From the moment we stepped aboard Princess Cruises®’ Grand Princess® at our close-to-home port of San Francisco, we felt the island vibe. Fellow passengers sported Hawaiian shirts. Staff members behind the purser’s desk wore flower leis. Tropical bouquets adorned lounges and bars.

Each night at dinner, we savored the flavors of Hawaii. Menu selections in the ship’s three main dining rooms included kalua pork, skewered mahi-mahi and grilled ono. Decadent desserts featured macadamia nuts and sweet, fresh pineapple.

It took four days at sea getting to the islands and five and a half to get back, but onboard activities took on Hawaiian themes. We created colorful leis from ribbons and orchids, danced the hula, attended Hawaiian food and language classes, and discovered fascinating facts about tropical flora and fauna. Other passengers went the musical route and took ukulele lessons.

Princess® cruises to Hawaii aboard Grand Princess® call at each of the four main islands: Hawaii, Oahu, Kauai and Maui. On land, passengers head to sandy beaches or join ship tours. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the fiery active volcano Kilauea are major draws in Hilo. A late-night departure from Honolulu offers a chance to visit the Polynesian Cultural Center for a traditional luau. Docking in Nawiliwili provides access to Kauai’s natural wonders. Excursions include hiking in Waimea Canyon, snorkeling beneath the Na Pali cliffs and flying above waterfalls in a helicopter. In Maui’s old whaling town of Lahaina, tours take passengers to Haleakala Crater, on the scenic Hana Highway, into the sacred Iao Valley, and on a whale-watching adventure in the island’s marine sanctuary.

In addition to San Francisco, roundtrip Princess® cruises to Hawaii also depart from Los Angeles and Vancouver. On California departures, the ship makes a brief stop in Ensenada, Mexico.

As they say in Hawaii: a hui hou—until we meet again.

I love to suggest Italy and Spain because of the culture and the flair of the people–their fashions, language and way of life. They take time to enjoy life's pleasures. When you're there, you feel it, too.
