You can once again paddle to Tom Sawyer Island, hop aboard the Disneyland® Railroad and catch the Fantasmic! water, light and pyrotechnic show. These three classic attractions reopen at Disneyland® Park this summer, appeasing longtime fans with glimmers of nostalgia and offering first-time guests a glimpse into the Anaheim park’s past.
The attractions were closed while the Rivers of America artificial river was rerouted to make space for the park’s 14-acre Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Some of the returning attractions feature new magic, while others remain the same as the day they first opened.
“The reopening of these attractions this summer is special because a lot of them were a part of the original park when Walt Disney first opened the resort,” says Disneyland® Resort spokesperson Michael Ramirez.
With the Rivers of America flowing once again, guests can sail the waters aboard the Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia and Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes. The sights along the waterway continue to celebrate the four majestic American rivers Walt Disney honored—the Mississippi, Missouri, Columbia and Rio Grande—when he designed the attraction for the park’s opening in 1955.
When the ships set sail, they’ll pass by some new views. The waterfront on the north bank, for example, overlooks the enhanced Columbia Gorge stretch of the river, which boasts thundering waterfalls and indigenous rock formations.
The new waterfront will also include several elevated riverside trestles that the new route of the Disneyland® Railroad will pass over. And, for the first time, the Disneyland® Railroad will be making a left-hand turn as it heads toward Mickey’s Toontown Station in Fantasyland.
