The region is a top AAA recommended destination for winter getaways and travelers visiting the Caribbean islands will help locations impacted by storm damage continue to rebuild.

Cold weather is great for the holidays, but nothing’s better than soaking up some sunshine in the middle of winter. Among the best places for your relaxing post-holiday vacation are the gorgeous and diverse Caribbean islands, from the sandy, white beaches of Barbados to the colorful culture of Jamaica.

Despite Hurricanes Irma and Maria, most Caribbean islands saw no major damage; the western and southern locales were spared completely. This means visitors can expect the same great food, accommodations, attractions and natural beauty that make the region one of the world’s most popular destinations.

To date, plenty of tropical hot spots are ready and waiting to welcome you: Antigua, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Bonaire, Curaçao, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Cayman Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, and Turks & Caicos. (Be sure to look for accommodations and restaurants with AAA Diamond ratings.)

Other good news: Mexico’s tourism infrastructure suffered little damage from recent earthquakes and Hurricane Katia, which made landfall in the eastern part of the country. And the Florida Keys are ready for travelers ahead of schedule following Hurricane Irma. The popular port of Key West, Florida, is back on many Caribbean cruise itineraries and is welcoming visitors back to the daily Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square Dock.

Caribbean cruising is as lively as ever, though itineraries have been changed slightly for some Eastern Caribbean cruises. (Check with your AAA Travel Counselor if you have your heart set on a specific port or shore excursion to be sure it’s on offer.)

This winter is the perfect time to enjoy a great Caribbean vacation. Even better, you’re enjoying turquoise waters and sunny beaches while, at the same time, supporting this special region by bringing in necessary tourism dollars. It’s a win-win.

The best time to visit the Caribbean is January through May. Call 877-396-7159 or contact a AAA Travel Counselor to plan your tropical vacation today.
