If you’re a super fan of the original Star Wars you’ll want to head to this Star Wars film location in Guatemala. The Mayan citadel in Tikal National Park in northern Guatemala, a UNESCO World Heritage site, stood in as the Rebel Base on Yavin 4 in A New Hope (1977).

In The Force Awakens (2015), the desert scenes on Jakku were filmed in the Rub’ al Khali desert on the Arabian Peninsula. Also known as the Empty Quarter, the desert is the largest contiguous sand desert in the world and is known for its nearly thousand-foot-high sand dunes—making it an amazing sight to see and also a must among Star Wars film locations.

Across the country, is another Star Wars film location. The geologically active landscape around Iceland’s Krafla volcano, about 300 miles northeast of Reykjavík, needs no adornment to pass for an alien world in The Force Awakens.

The island of Skellig Michael, about eight miles off the coast of western Ireland, stars as a backdrop in The Force Awakens. The larger of two Skellig islands, it’s home to the remains of a sixth-century monastery and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996. Plan to visit this Star Wars film location during the summer—that’s the only time the sea crossing from County Kerry is possible.
